The Christian Contingent

The enemy

We are born with a spirit that is dead. When we accept the grace of God and receive the gift of Jesus Christ, our spirit is born to life and through our spirit we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies. We battle the enemy with our flesh, soul, and spirit. Before we are saved we are no threat to the enemy because we are already going to Hell for our sins. When we are saved we become a target of the enemy.

Who is the enemy?

The enemy are fallen angels. God created angels in the beginning when the earth was being formed. Lucifer was the greatest of all the angels and then wanted what God had. When he became prideful and started to lust after the things that were God’s he wanted to be exalted above everyone and everything, including God. So he rebelled against God. Other angels went with Lucifer into rebellion against the God who made them. These angels are doomed to reside for eternity in the lake of fire which was created for them (Hell). Lucifer is now called the Devil or Satan. Satan means “accuser” and is used in the Bible to indicater other people. It has been used for so long as the name for the accuser that it became a proper name for him. The other angels who rebelled against God are called demons.

Where does the enemy dwell?

The enemy dwells in the realm of God and His angels. We call this realm the Spiritual Realm. Can this realm interact with ours? Yes, it most certainly can. We cannot generally see this realm but there are many places in the Bible where it is obvious to individuals. Jacob at Luz or Bethel saw a ladder rising from earth to heaven with the Lord standing at the top speaking to him (Genesis 28:12-19). He fought with the Lord at Peniel where he received a blessing and the Lord changed his name (Genesis 32:24-29). Elisha was in the town of Dothan when the king of Syria sent an army to capture him. When Elisha awoke in the morning the town was surrounded, but he was not worried because there were many more with him than were with those against him (2 Kings 6:12-17).

Is This Realm Among Us?

Yes, it is. It resides in the same space as we do but it is seperated from us. I do not know how it is seperated but the Lord can open that curtain when He wants to. The enemy can pass through this curtain seemingly at will (Job 1:7). The earth is the dwelling place of the enemy (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). They have access to us and our realm, and we do not have access to the spiritual realm, except for prayer. God hears every prayer and that is how we can breach that curtain and ask God to change what we cannot.
